The government of Goa has authorized two district collectors to exercise powers under the National Security Act (NSA) for a period of three months. This information was confirmed by officials.
On Thursday, Manthan Manoj Naik, the Under Secretary (Home), issued an order granting both district collectors the authority to implement the NSA, citing the 'current circumstances' in the coastal state.
The order specifies that the district collectors of North Goa and South Goa can utilize the powers conferred by subsection (2) of section three of the NSA within their respective jurisdictions.
This provision allows for the preventive detention of individuals deemed a threat to state security, public order, or essential supplies and services. This decision comes in response to a recent attack on social activist Rama Konkankar by seven individuals, all of whom are habitual offenders.
